Prof. Seiyefa Brisibe

Biography

Prof. Seiyefa Brisibe is a distinguished Nigerian medical professional, academic, and public servant currently serving as the Honourable Commissioner for Health in Bayelsa State. He is a Professor of Family Medicine and a recognized expert in health economics and policy.

Current Roles & Leadership
Commissioner for Health, Bayelsa State: Appointed by Governor Douye Diri, he leads the state’s health sector reforms, focusing on infrastructure modernization and accessible healthcare.
Co-Chairman, National Emergency Medical Treatment Committee (NEMTC): Appointed by the Federal Government of Nigeria to help oversee national emergency medical services.

Political Affiliation: Formerly a member of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), he formally realigned with the All Progressives Congress (APC) in November 2025.

Academic & Professional Background
Academic Rank & Experience: A Professor of Family Medicine since 2008, he previously served as Dean of Clinical Sciences at Niger Delta University (NDU) and held leadership roles at the university teaching hospital.
Consultancy: Prof. Brisibe has consulted for major international organizations, including the WHO, UNICEF, UNDP, and the European Union.

Background: He holds an MBBS from the University of Port Harcourt, a Master’s in Health Economics & Policy from the University of Birmingham, an Executive MBA from London Metropolitan University, and a diploma from Coventry University. He is also a Fellow of the West African College of Physicians.
