Stop Seeing Politics As Dirty, Gov Diri Urges Christians – Reels Out Achievements Ahead Second Anniversary

Bayelsa State Governor, Senator Douye Diri, has advised Christians to actively participate in politics and stop seeing it as dirty if they want to positively impact on the society.

Governor Diri gave the advice while speaking at the end of a two-day programme of The Redeemed Christian Church of God tagged “Light Up Bayelsa Holy Ghost Rally” at the Oxbow Lake in Yenagoa on Wednesday evening.

The governor in a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr Daniel Alabrah, urged Christians not to be aloof to politics or remain unconcerned but rather join to influence decision-making for the good of the generality of the people.

He said Nigeria was in dire  need of people that would salvage it from its many challenges, adding that the church should not be docile in the face of insecurity, corruption and other vices threatening the country.

The governor stated that under his administration, peace had come to stay in the state and that the days when people resort to violence to settle differences were over.

Speaking about his achievements, Diri said within  two years in the saddle, his administration had changed the landscape through various projects from road infrastructure, educational and health structures to lighting up of the major roads and building of a mega media complex among numerous other projects.

The Bayelsa helmsman, who expressed joy that the programme coincided with activities marking his second year in office, declared that his administration had adopted it as part of its anniversary celebrations.

He thanked the RCCG General Overseer, Pastor Enoch Adeboye, for his continued support for his administration.

He said: “You are a good father. So, after consultation, we decided to give you the name “Ebidaowei of Bayelsa,” meaning the  good father of Bayelsa.

“Our story as a government in Bayelsa will be better told by you, Daddy G.O. When we were told that you were coming to start the year with us, we opened our arms to welcome you.

“This government will be two years old on February 14. You have been a part of us, supported us, prayed with us and prayed for us. You have continued to support us by coming to begin the year with us.

“As part of our second anniversary celebration, we have adopted this programme. Bayelsa has been lighted up. Bayelsa will not go back to Egypt.

“As your government, we came in 2020 at the time of COVID-19. In 2021, we had some respite and effectively governance commenced.

“Within this short period, our scorecard is on the streets. We have constructed roads. There are between 15 and 20 concrete roads constructed in Yenagoa. We are taking on a big ticket road project from the Ecumenical Center at Igbogene to Tombia roundabout and later to Government House. We are taking on the Yenagoa to Oporoma road, and by February 14, we will drive from Yenagoa to Angiama.

“We are taking on the other senatorial road from Sagbama to Ekeremor in Bayelsa West. Our desire is that by February, we will drive on tarred road to Aleibiri. Before our government completes its first four years, we will drive on tarred road to Ekereomor.

“We have taken one of our signature projects, because we see the media as very important. We are building one of the biggest media complexes in Nigeria today and before February 14, it will be commissioned.

“In terms of sports and youth empowerment, your government has done so much that at the last sports festival, for the first time, Bayelsa came third in Nigeria. Bayelsa last year won the Federation Cup called AITEO Cup.

“We have continued to light up Yenagoa city. Our streets will no longer be in darkness.

“Your government is also very concerned about the other senatorial road in Bayelsa East Senatorial District, which has been on the drawing board for decades. That is the road from Nembe to Brass. We have resolved that since it is a Federal Government road, if nothing is done this year, your government will start its construction.

“Also, we are poised to commission the Nembe Unity Bridge by February 14. The collapsed Elebele bridge, started and completed by your government, will be commissioned also on February 14.”

God Has Something Special For Bayelsa, Says Pastor Adeboye

General Overseer of The Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Pastor Enoch Adeboye, has said Bayelsa State will continue to make good progress as God has something special for the state.

He made the prophetic declaration on Tuesday when he was received at the Government House, Yenagoa, by Governor Douye Diri, his deputy, Senator Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo, top government officials and some Christian leaders in the state.

The globally acclaimed cleric, popularly known as Daddy G.O, is in the state for a two-day “Light Up Bayelsa Holy Ghost Rally” holding in selected cities across the country to commemorate his 80th birthday in March this year.

Pastor Adeboye said his visit was in fulfilment of the promise he made earlier to hold a crusade in Yenagoa, stating that he was happy to see it come through this year, which he described as a year of “double blessings.”

He noted that year 2022 is peculiar as the last time the world had similar figures was over a thousand years ago.

While pronouncing blessings for the year, he said it gladdened his heart to note that God had something special for Bayelsa.

The RCCG General Overseer proclaimed that the state would witness a great and positive turnaround in its development.

He prayed God to double the blessings, testimonies and joy upon the land, people and government of the state.

He said: “I am happy because I made a promise the last time I was here that I will be here at least to hold a Holy Ghost Rally. When I was making that promise, I did not know the extent that the demand of my time had grown.

“By the special grace of the Most High God, I am here to fulfill that promise. I am particularly happy that God has made it possible for me to come because this is a very special year.

“This year is very peculiar because the last time we had its kind was in 1011. That was more than a thousand years ago. The next time would be in 3033. That is 911 years from now. A year like this comes once in anybody’s lifetime.

“It is a year of doubles; a year when God is going to double your blessings, testimonies and joy.

“So when God opened the door for me to come, particularly in the month of January, I was delighted. It gladdens my heart that God has something very special in store for Bayelsa. I am not a prophet but I am a pastor who hears from God occasionally.

“You can mark my words. As a result of this visit, Bayelsa will never remain the same again.”

Responding, Governor Douye Diri said when fathers and prophets speak, they do so lightly but the spoken words come with power from God, which was the reason God ordered Adeboye’s footsteps to Bayelsa.

The governor said it was a privilege to have the RCCG General Overseer in the state, particularly at the beginning of the year.

He expressed the belief that Adeboye’s prophetic pronouncements would manifest greatly on the people and land of Bayelsa.

He said there is so much to gain listening to and believing the words of the cleric.

He said: “On behalf of the Deputy Governor, members of the State Executive Council, our government that we have tagged Prosperity Government and the people of Bayelsa, I wholeheartedly welcome you to your state. We receive you as our father to this state.

“It is indeed a privilege for this state and in particular for the Prosperity Government to see you at the beginning of the year in the month of January here in Yenagoa. That you stepped on this land, who knows that the conclusion of your statement will certainly impact on the people and the land of Bayelsa.

“For this two days that you will be in Bayelsa, I like to call on all Bayelsans to be part of this visit, which is not ordinary. The opportunity to host a man of God of national and international repute comes once in a lifetime.

“There is so much we can gain from listening to him and believing the words that come out from him. I believe it will impact our lives as a people, as a state and as a country.”

He recounted how the title “Miracle Governor” came about, saying it was the result of his encounter with Adeboye in Lagos when all hopes seemed lost before his miraculous emergence as governor.

He stated that his government was a product of the pastor’s divine intervention alongside other anointed clerics.

Thanksgiving Day: Diri Appreciates Bayelsans For Support

Bayelsa State Governor, Senator Douye Diri, has expressed appreciation to Bayelsans for the tremendous support for his administration.

Governor Diri spoke on Tuesday during the state’s 10th Annual Thanksgiving Day, which was the second under his administration.

The governor, who was full of joy for the prevailing peace, stability and unity being enjoyed by the people, said he had not much to say other than to thank leaders and founding fathers of the state for rallying round his administration.

He promised to continue to churn out projects that would uplift the living standards of the people.

His words: “I thank Bayelsans for their love and support to the Prosperity Administration.  I also express my profound gratitude to all the leaders of the state, particularly the founding fathers and leaders of thought across the Ijaw nation for rallying round my administration. I’m overwhelmed with joy for the peaceful disposition of Bayelsans towards my administration.

“I would like to also express my appreciation to the legislature, the judiciary and members of my cabinet for the warm and cordial working relationship among us. I must say that this is really heartwarming and I assure you that the Prosperity Government will continue to embark on projects that would endear the people more to our government.

“My appreciation also goes to the youths and women of the state.”

He applauded the immediate past governor, Senator Seriake Dickson, for initiating the Thanksgiving Day celebration and for putting up the magnificent Ecumenical Centre, which has become the rallying ground every November 2 for people to appreciate God for His manifold blessings.

The programme attracted Bayelsans and other prominent Nigerians, who turned out in their large numbers.

Speaking at the event, Vice President of Nigeria, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, represented by Chaplain of the Aso Rock Chapel, Pastor Seyi Malomo, commended Governor Diri, stating that the developmental strides witnessed in the state attested to the presence of God as a result of the recognition accorded Him.

He prayed God to continue to bless the state for recognising His supremacy.

In his remarks, Senator Seriake Dickson, who came with his wife, Dr. Rachael, also appreciated Diri for continuing with programmes and projects his administration initiated.

He urged Bayelsans to pray for the governor and his team to stay focused and courageous in their quest to develop Bayelsa.

Describing leadership as a relay race, he said one governor alone cannot solve the problems of the state, and urged the people not to allow rumour mongering and propaganda to derail the present administration.

Also speaking, former governor of old Rivers State, Chief Rufus Ada-George, said Bayelsans have reasons to thank God as it has produced prominent leaders in the country, including former President Goodluck Jonathan, and blessed with human and natural resources.

He said God has used Diri to foster unity and understanding among the people and the Ijaw nation, and advised the state to depend only on God for its progress.

Guest preacher at the event, Rev. Uma Ukpai, made prophetic declarations and proclaimed healing and blessings on the people of the state and land of Bayelsa.

Making reference to the scriptures, he urged Bayelsans to draw closer to God to experience supernatural increase.

Among dignitaries at the service were the Deputy Governor, Senator Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo, Speaker of the state assembly, Abraham Ingobere, Chief Judge of the state, Justice Kate Abiri and judges of the state high court.

Others were wife of former governor of the state, Mrs Margaret Alamieyeseigha, members of the National Assembly representing the state, immediate past deputy governor of the state, Rear Admiral Gboribiogha Jonah (rtd), first military governor of old Rivers State and chairman of the Bayelsa Council of Traditional Rulers, King Alfred Diete-Spiff as well as other royal fathers.

Also in attendance were national and state Peoples Democratic Party stalwarts, clergymen, President of the Ijaw National Congress, Prof Benjamin Okaba as well as President, Ijaw Youth Council, Comrade Peter Igbifa.
